Start Promoting Camp

theme development

At CentriKid Camps, we know that every moment is important. We craft our camp to use each small moment to help campers grow in their walk with the Lord and to have fun. One way we intentionally do this is through our yearly theme. Each year, our content falls under one of four quadrants: Who God is, what God does, who we are (in response to who God is), and what we do (in response to what God does). Within a camper’s years at CentriKid, they would experience a theme that derives from each of the quadrants. The theme is the foundation of what we focus on with campers throughout the week.

“I love CentriKid because, with each element of camp, everything is always related back to the gospel.”
Alli Brown, CentriKid Team Leader

“The quadrants are a really good groundwork to guide us through each year.”
Ellie Thomas, Director of KidMin at Calvary Winston-Salem

“We all come together to ask the question, ‘What does God have to say to the kids we are going to serve through camp?”
Jeremy Carroll, Lifeway Kids Ministry Publishing Manager

choosing a centrikid theme

Our Content Creation Team begins to create and brainstorm themes up to eighteen months before camp. In the following months, our team begins to write, design, produce, edit, and create all the things that you will experience at camp – all in hopes of sharing the message of Christ with campers who attend. Our typical process is guided by the points below.

start with scripture

We know that the spiritual content of camp is the most important thing. Before anything else, our team spends time praying and discussing what our spiritual direction will be for the summer. We think through what kids need to hear and how Scripture answers those questions.

choose daily themes

Once we land on an overall spiritual direction, we begin to focus on each specific day of camp. Each day of camp unpacks a focused theme that supports the overall theme of camp. This upcoming summer, each day of “Higher” is broken up into daily themes like “Higher Love, Higher Life, Higher Command, etc.” This is also where we begin ideating what Scripture passages will be used in different elements of camp, like Time Alone with God, Bible Study, and Worship.

brainstorm overall motifs

This is when our creativity kicks in, and we begin to create a motif that makes the spiritual direction come to life. Anything from an amusement park to a pirate ship adventure, our team spends time creating a “world” that the theme can live in. This summer, our motif is based in a national park-esque world, with mountain climbing, camping, and more!

leave the conversation open

Once we have laid solid groundwork for our theme, we choose to leave the conversation open over the next few months. We leave with an idea of our motif and spiritual direction for the next summer, but we want to continue to seek the Lord’s guidance and remain willing to adjust things as He leads.
